Slavia Praha was founded in November 1892, making it one of the oldest football clubs in the Czech Republic. The formation of Sparta Prague, Slavia's bitter rivals, came just 12 months after Slavia had been established.
Slavia Prague made its UEFA Champions League debut in 2007, but failed to progress from the group phase. The Czech outfit returned to UEFA's premier club competition in 2019, but finished bottom of a tough group comprising of FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Borussia Dortmund, all previous winners of the Champions League.
Nicknamed 'Sešívaní', Slavia Prague have become more accustomed to playing in the Europa League, with mixed fortunes in this competition and its predecessor, the UEFA Cup. Slavia crashed out to Leeds United in the 1999/00 season, four years after reaching the semi-finals.
Slavia advanced to the Europa League quarter-finals in 2019, but lost to eventual champions Chelsea. Two years later, Slavia Prague were beaten by Arsenal at the same stage.
Sešívaní have struggled to reduce the gap behind city rivals Sparta Prague in terms of league championships. The Czech Republic gained independence in 1993, and the Czech First League was subsequently formed. Sparta have won no fewer than 13 league titles since then, while Slavia celebrated a seventh league success in 2021.
In the 2023/24 season, Slavia Praha were drawn against AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16.
No player has made more appearances for Slavia Prague than Milan Škoda, nor has anybody scored more goals for the club. The former Czech Republic striker netted 89 times in 251 competitive matches with Slavia.
Ex-goalkeeper Radek Cerny had multiple spells at his boyhood club, amassing a total 241 appearances. He also spent more than three years at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Stanislav Vlcek scored 52 goals in 196 matches as a Slavia Prague player. After bringing his playing career to an end in 2012, Vlcek took up a role in the backroom staff at the club.
