2018/19 saw Rennes mount their first decent run in Europe. They finished second in Group K to set up a Round of 32 clash with Real Betis. In the first leg, which took place at Roazhon Park in France, goals from Adrien Hunou and Hatem Ben Arfa and a Javi Garcia own goal earned them a 3-3 draw.

In the return, Rennes were very impressive in securing a 3-1 away win to set up a Round of 16 match-up with Arsenal, and the Ligue 1 side were very impressive in their 3-1 home win over the North London club.

However, at the Emirates Stadium, a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a third from Ainsley Maitland-Niles saw Arsenal secure a 4-3 aggregate win.

The club’s first UEFA Champions League berth came in 2020/21, and Rennes could manage just one point from their six group games, that coming at home to Krasnodar.

2021/22 was a strong season for Bruno Genesio’s side. They remained unbeaten in their UEFA Europa Conference group, which was very impressive given that Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem and Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur were among those they came up against.

However, in the Round of 16, they lost out to Leicester City 3-2 on aggregate.
