Tyson Fury History

Tyson Luke Fury was born in Manchester, England on August 12, 1988. He was named after Mike Tyson, who was the heavyweight champion of the world at the time.

Fury made his professional boxing debut in December 2008, aged 20. He won all of his first seven fights by knockout, and went on to accrue a record of 14-0 within three years of his debut. In July 2011, Fury defeated Derek Chisora by unanimous decision at Wembley Arena to become the holder of the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.

Tyson Fury met Chisora again in November 2014 and the same result ensued, only this time the former won via knockout, leading up to the biggest win of Fury's career 12 months later. The Gypsy King was 24-0 at the time and became the first contender to face heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who had won 64 of his 67 fights until that point.

Fury won by unanimous decision to become the the WBC / WBA / IBF heavyweight champion, though he would soon after vacate the titles due to personal reasons.

The Gypsy King was a man reborn when he made his return to the ring in June 2018, almost three years after his last fight. Fury had lost 112 pounds (51 kg) having overcome mental health issues and he went on to challenge Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title in December that year. The contest ended in a draw, making it the first fight Fury had failed to win in his professional career.

Wilder and Fury had a rematch in February 2020, which the latter won by knockout to become the WBC heavyweight champion. Fury successfully defended his title against Wilder in September 2021, again claiming a knockout victory.

Tyson Fury retained the WBC title in 2022, beating both Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora by TKO. The 6'7" colossus fought UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who made his boxing debut in a non-title fight versus Fury in October 2023. The boxing champion won via a controversial split decision, though he had been knocked down by Ngannou in the third round.

By the time of his fight with Francis Ngannou in October 2023, Fury had already agreed to face the unified WBA / WBO / IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in February 2024. The fight was postponed to May, owing to an injury incurred by Fury.
