About Villarreal Football Tickets

Compared to other Spanish clubs, Villarreal is a latecomer, being founded in 1923 as Club Deportivo Villarreal. In the years preceding the Spanish Civil War, the club was a relatively anonymous member of regional competitions.

However, CD Villarreal disbanded in 1942, leaving the small community without a football team for a short period. It didn't take long for locals to start an initiative for the club's rebirth, which occurred in 1947 as CAF Villarreal, a name changed in 1954 to the present Villarreal CF.

In the 1998–99 season, Villarreal arrived in La Liga, and although it got relegated to the Second Division in the next season, the club made a rapid comeback in the 2000-01 season. Since then, except for the 2012–13 season, it's been a regular participant in the top tier of Spanish football and UEFA tournaments.

Roig's investment was not only in professional footballers. The owner nurtured the development of the youth academy with new training facilities, providing impetus for the further rise of one of the most underrated and overlooked football clubs.

Major Rivalry

The cities of Valencia and Villarreal are 35 miles apart, the perfect distance for a regional rivalry, properly labelled Derbi de la Comunitat. Some fans say it's because the club is stealthy as a submarine. They are a team that has "surfaced" unexpectedly in La Liga and are making "waves".

But in reality, the nickname is derived from the Beatles song by the same name. During a football match in the 1967-68 season, a fan played the song El Submarino Amarillo on a battery-powered recorder after the team scored a goal, and supporters started to sing the lyrics, emphasizing the word yellow, as it's the club's colours.
