Anthony Joshua History

Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua was born in Watford, England on October 15, 1989. He made his professional debut in October 2013, shortly before his 24th birthday. Joshua had represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games, winning a gold medal in the super-heavyweight boxing event.

AJ claimed victory by knockout in all of his first 20 professional fights, with Dillian Whyte and Dominic Breazeale among his victims. His first world title came in April 2016 when he knocked out then-IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin in the second round at the O2 Arena in London.

Joshua earned an impressive win over Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017 at Wembley Stadium. The British boxer retained the IBF heavyweight title while also picking up the vacant WBA / IBO world titles, and he later added the WBO heavyweight title to his collection by defeating Joseph Parker in March 2018.

AJ lost his world titles to Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019 at Madison Square Garden, but reclaimed the belts in a rematch seven months later in Saudi Arabia. Joshua retained against Kubrat Pulev at the end of 2020, before once again losing the world titles the following year, this time at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian won by unanimous decision at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and then by split decision in a rematch one year later in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Anthony Joshua fought three times in 2023, including twice at the O2 Arena, earning victories over Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, and Otto Wallin. It was announced in early 2024 that AJ would face UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou at Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.
