These two countries have met twice in the recent past. In September 2007, a Martin Demichelis goal was enough to give Argentina a narrow win in an international friendly, and in June 2005 at the Confederations Cup, Luciano Figueroa scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win that also saw Australian striker John Aloisi score twice.

If you are an Argentina football fan, then the low you reached when Saudi Arabia somehow recovered from being a goal down to secure a truly astonishing win over the South American nation in the first game of the tournament will have been a very pronounced one.
Fortunately, Lionel Scaloni's men showed great character as they won against both Mexico and Poland to fight for the right to play in the Round of 16, where they will be the big favourite to progress.
Australia at the World Cup
Australia booked their place in the Round of 16 as they performed over the odds to secure a place as one of the top two teams in Group C.
They started with a bang, Craig Goodwin netting against France early on in their first game, only to then be thumped by Kylian Mbappe and co in a 4-1 loss. They then saw off the challenge of Tunisia thanks to a goal from Mitchell Duke and followed that up with a magnificent win over Denmark, secured with a goal from Matthew Leckie.
This meant Australia had progressed out of the Group phase of the tournament for only the second time ever.
