Bastille History

Bastille was formed in 2010 by Dan Smith, who originates from South London and initially envisaged the act as a solo project. He then moved to bring in a whole band to meet his vision, with Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, and Chris Wood brought in to make up the band's classic lineup and one that has served the band well.

Smith and his band members were signed by Virgin Records, and their debut major label single, Bad Blood, was released in 2012 and was a moderate success. That was followed by the more successful release of Flaws.

The band released their debut studio album in 2013, and Bad Blood got to number one on the UK charts; the album peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard charts and sold over six million copies worldwide.

Their megahit single Pompeii proved to be the turning point for Bastille, with the band's defining single reaching number two on the UK charts and breaking into the top five in the US and charting well across Europe.

The track went six times Platinum in the US and quickly brought universal fame to lead singer Dan Smith and his band. This led to Bastille playing extensively around the world and honed an absolutely amazing live experience, full of audience participation combined with a great band playing at the peak of their powers to produce an amazing show.

The album was quickly re-issued as a double album, and this saw the release of another hugely successful single, Of the Night, which reached number two on the UK charts.
