Eintracht Frankfurt Conference League Tickets

You could say that Eintracht Frankfurt took to European football like the proverbial duck to water. In their first outing, in the European Cup no less, the German side swept all before them en route to meeting Real Madrid in what is now considered one of the most famous finals of all time.

Die Adler had won the Bundesliga for the first time in 1959, to date, their only success in the domestic title race, and that earned them a seat at the European Cup table, and it’s one they lapped up.

They defeated KuPS of Finland, Young Boys of Switzerland, and Weiner SC of Austria to set up a Semi-Final with Scottish champions Rangers. It was a tie that the German side were very much in the ascendancy, scoring six goals in each leg, with Alfred Pfaff scoring a brace in both games, to secure a 12-4 aggregate win.

They then faced a dominant Real Madrid side in Glasgow and took a surprise lead through Richard Kress, an act that clearly riled up their Spanish opponents, who proceeded to put Eintracht Frankfurt to the sword. Ferenc Puskas scored four times, and Alfredo Di Stefano notched up two to see Real Madrid take a 6-1 lead before a rally from the opponents.

The game ended 7-3, and the crowd of over 127,000 was no doubt thrilled by the spectacle.

It took more than a decade for the club to return to Europe, and in both 1972/73 and 1974/75, they failed to make an impact, but in 1975/76, they did go on a run to the UEFA European Cup Winners’ Cup Semi-Finals where they were then beaten by West Ham United.

In 1979/80, Eintracht Frankfurt secured their first-ever European triumph as they emerged triumphant after a glorious run in the UEFA Cup. In the Semi-Finals of the competition, they faced fellow Germans Bayern Munich and lost the first leg 2-0 at the Olympiastadion but battled back superbly to win the return leg 5-1 to set up a final with yet another German side, Borussia Monchengladbach.

Monchengladbach took the first leg 3-2, but Eintracht won the return 1-0, thanks to a late goal from Fred Schaub, which handed them a win on away goals.

They performed in Europe on many subsequent occasions but failed to go far into the draw on most occasions though in 2018/19, they got to the UEFA Europa League Semi-Finals, only to be defeated by Chelsea on penalties.

2021/22 saw the Deutsche Bank Park side pick up their second European crown, with Oliver Glasner taking his side past Real Betis, FC Barcelona, and West Ham to set up a Final with Rangers in Seville.

Joe Aribo put the Glasgow side ahead just before the hour mark, and Colombian international Rafael Santos Borre equalized for Eintracht Frankfurt, and the game went to penalties.

Former Arsenal man Aaron Ramsey was the only player to miss, and that gave Eintracht Frankfurt the UEFA Europa League title.

That success earned them a return to the European Cup/UEFA Champions League after an absence of over 60 years, and they did well to qualify from a group stage that saw them paired with Sporting Lisbon, Marseille, and Tottenham Hotspur.

They were subsequently knocked out by Napoli in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, the Serie A title winners easing to a 5-0 aggregate success.
