Everton FC took part in the inaugural edition of the English Football League Cup during the 1960/61 season, though the Merseyside outfit only next played in the competition seven years later.

The Toffees reached the EFL Cup in 1977 but lost out to Aston Villa in extra-time. The 1983/84 campaign saw Everton suffer a 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool in the League Cup final, with Graeme Souness netting the decisive goal.
