Feyenoord History

Along with Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord is one of the big three clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie. They're often competing to win the title. Ajax are their arch rivals and every match between them, known as 'De Klassiker', is a battle of the two biggest cities in the Netherlands.

Feyenoord was originally founded in 1908 and has played continuously in the top-flight of Dutch football since 1921. The club's golden era came in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Under the management of Ernst Happel, they won the 1969/70 Eredivisie title and the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League), becoming the first Dutch club to do so. Their European Cup triumph over Celtic was a significant moment in the history of Dutch football.

Feyenoord has consistently been a top contender in Dutch football, clinching numerous Eredivisie titles. Under Arne Slot, they won the title in the 2022/23 season. The club is renowned for its passionate fans, and matches at De Kuip, its iconic stadium, are characterized by electric atmospheres.

Description: De Kuip, meaning "The Tub" in Dutch, is the second biggest stadium in the Netherlands. Opened in 1937, the venue has a rich history and has hosted numerous important football matches, including two European Cup finals.

Best Way to Reach De Kuip

Fans have plenty of options for arriving to the stadium. It's located on the south bank of the river Meuse, approximately 4.5km from Rotterdam's city centre.

By Car:

It's possible to arrive by car but there is lots of traffic on matchday, and most parking near the stadium is reserved for season-ticket holders. The club recommend fans to park their car for free at P+R and take the tram number 23 or 12 to the stadium. Alight the tram at Stadion Feijenoord, which is a three-minute walk to the stadium.

By Public Transportation:

Most Feyenoord supporters arrive to the stadium by public transport. Trams number 12 and 23 go to Stadion Feijenoord. Fans with a valid match ticket can use the tram for free in the three hours before kick-off and three hours after the final whistle. The bus is also free and fans can hop on bus number 77 at Zuidplein and exit at Breeplein.

The Feyenoord supporters have witnessed many superstars play in their famous red and white colours. Willem van Hanegem and Coen Moulijn were the star men of the 1970 European Cup winning team. In the 21st century, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Dirk Kuyt, and Robin van Persie have all starred for Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie.
