Madness History
Madness were formed in the late 1970s and really started to make an impact when, as a six-piece unit, they brought in Graham McPherson (also known as Suggs), to take over lead vocal duties. Hailing from Camden Town, the band went on to become a massive success from the get-go.
The band released their debut album, One Step Beyond, in 1979, and it went to number two on the UK Charts. That album included a host of big hit singles, including the title track My Girl, The Prince and Night Boat to Cairo.
Their second album, Absolutely, did similarly well with iconic tracks Baggy Trousers, Embarrassment and The Return of the Los Palmas 7 all charting well.
The band's first compilation album, Complete Madness and its follow-up, The Rise & Fall, spawned the group's biggest and best-known hits, It Must Be Love and Our House, both of which proved successful in the United States.
House of Fun, released in 1982, became the band's first UK number-one single and a number of other big-selling singles followed before the band split in 1986. The band reformed six years later and have not looked back since, releasing new material and playing live regularly.
The support for the band has never waned, and their laid-back attitude and crowd interaction at live shows are one of the reasons that whenever a tour is announced, tickets are sold out within minutes, and that's where SeatPick comes in.
