Marco Antonio Muniz, aka Marc Anthony, was born in September 1968 in New York City. His father, a very commanding influence on his music career, helped Marc learn to sing in both Spanish and English, his father being a professional guitar player.

Marc Anthony's debut solo album, Otra Nota, was released in 1993. Although the album's singles, including Hasta Que Te Conoci, Palabras del Alma, and Si Tu No Te Fueras, did chart on the US Latin Music singles charts, it failed to make a big impact on the charts.

In 1999, his self-titled fourth studio album saw him skyrocket, the album going to break into the US Billboard Albums Chart top-ten, selling over three million copies in the United States alone.
