Goals from Marquinhos, Angel Di Maria, and Juan Bernat saw the French side through to the final, where they would ultimately lose to Bayern Munich.

In 2021/22, the club were once again demoted from the UEFA Champions League and into the UEFA Europa League and forced a path to meeting Scottish side Rangers in the Semi-Finals.

Angelino gave Leipzig a 1-0 win at home, but that didn’t prove enough as Rangers romped to a 3-1 win at Ibrox to send RB packing.

In 2022/23, Marco Rose’s side eased into the knockout stages before they were given something of a footballing lesson by Premier League side Manchester City. Leipzig drew 1-1 at home and may have thought that they stood a decent shot at giving Pep Guardiola’s side a stiff test at the Etihad Stadium, but that didn’t prove to be the case.

Erling Haaland scored five, while Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne also found the back of the net in an imperious 7-0 win on their way to clinching their maiden UEFA Champions League triumph.
