Description: The stadium was named after Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, the former president of Sevilla FC and the driving force behind the push to construct a new venue for the club. Sadly, Pizjuán unexpectedly died before construction started. So when in 1956 the venue opened, it was christened in his honour. Work did not stop then. Capacity continued to grow with every new renovation, peaking at 70,000, but currently can hold 42,714 spectators. It hosted games from the 1982 World Cup, and in 1986 was the stage for the European Cup final.
