Sevilla FC are one of the most successful teams to have ever competed in the Europa League in recent memory, as they went through a period of winning the tournament on several occasions. Therefore, considering how well followed the Spanish side are and their previous successes across the continent, it is hardly a surprise that the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, which hold a capacity of 43,833 fans, becomes a lively venue when they do participate in the competition.
Los Nervionenses, as they are known, have had a number of top-quality players turn out for them in the past, whilst there have been a number of stars to grace the pitch for the Andalusian outfit in more recent memory, which adds to the appeal of attending fixtures in Europe’s elite club competition. Men such as Wissam Ben Yedder, Jesus Navas, Dani Alves, Ever Banega and Luuk de Jong have all featured over the years, whilst coaches such as Unai Emery have brought immense success to the southern Spanish outfit over the years.
As mentioned, Sevilla’s appearances in the Europa League have been incredibly successful over the years as the club appear to really enjoy themselves when playing in what has been known to be Europe’s secondary elite club competition.
Perhaps astonishingly, the Spanish outfit have been victorious in the tournament on no fewer than five occasions; having won the competition in 2005/06, 2006/07, 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16.
Of course, winning the tournament three times in a row is an unbelievable feat and one of the most memorable moments for the Andalusian outfit, as they managed to produce a number of impressive results against some of Europe’s biggest sides in each campaign. They beat teams such as Real Betis, FC Porto, Valencia and Benfica in the final in their first of three successes, whilst going on to beat the likes of Borussia Monchengladbach, Villarreal, Zenit St. Petersburg, AFC Fiorentina and FC Dnipro in the 2014/15 showpiece.
If reaching the final of the competition on two occasions were not impressive enough, Sevilla managed to make their third appearance in a row as they beat the likes of Athletic Club de Bilbao, Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool to lift their fifth title in the history of the competition.
Recent editions of the tournament have seen Los Nervionenses reach the Round of 16 on a consistent basis, however it is no surprise with their history in the Europa League that fans continue to flock to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to watch their team in action in a competition they have a history not many other football clubs can match.
