In 2009/10, Atletico Madrid won their first-ever UEFA Europa League crown, defeating Fulham in the Final 2-1 in Hamburg thanks to goals from Diego Forlan, his second coming in the 116th minute to break the Cottagers’ hearts.

2011/12 saw Diego Simeone’s side win the competition again, defeating fellow Spanish outfit Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in a one-sided final. Radamel Falcao scored twice in Bucharest, and Diego got the third to end an impressive campaign.

In 2017/18, Atletico Madrid were imperious on their route to yet another UEFA Europa League Final, beating Arsenal 2-1 in the Semi-Finals to set up a final with Marseille in Lyon, a game that Simeone’s side easily won 3-0 with Antoine Griezmann scoring twice and Gabi getting the other goal.
