Arsenal have a vast history when it comes to European action, with the North London side regularly reaching the latter stages of a series of top competitions, securing two trophies in the process.

Ajax were brushed aside in the Semi-Finals to set up a tie with Belgian side Anderlecht. The Brussels-based side took the first leg 3-1 and left Arsenal with a mountain to climb at Highbury, which they duly scaled. Goals from Eddie Kelly, Jon Sammels, and John Radford gave the Gunners a famous 3-0 win to secure a 4-3 victory to lift the trophy.

A decade later, the team reached the UEFA Cup Final with Terry Neill’s side defeating Juventus in the Semi-Finals to set up an enthralling tie with Spanish side Valencia.

The UEFA Cup Final was goalless for 120 minutes, and the game went to penalties, with Graham Rix missing the decisive spot-kick to send the trophy to the Mestalla.

European triumph was tasted again in 1993/94, with George Graham’s side going on an impressive run to the European Cup Winners’ Cup Final. Torino and Paris Saint Germain were dispatched in the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals, respectively, setting up a tie with Parma in Copenhagen, with forward Alan Smith scoring the only goal of the game.

Between 2000/01 and 2016/17, Arsene Wenger’s side competed in the UEFA Champions League every season without fail. They placed in the UEFA Europa League for the first time in 2017/18 and went on to get to the Semi-Finals that season.

On that occasion, they were knocked out by Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate the following season, they went one better and got to the UEFA Europa League Final and may have been left wishing they hadn’t done.

Unai Emery’s side met sworn Premier League enemies Chelsea in Baku and were duly thumped 4-1, with Belgian Eden Hazard being their chief tormentor. 2020/21 saw the team once again get to the final four in the UEFA Europa League; this time, Villarreal were the side to thwart the club’s challenge for another European honour.
