About Arsenal FA Cup
Arsenal History in the FA Cup
There's only one club that can claim to be the most successful in the history of the world's oldest knockout club competition, and that club is Arsenal FC. The Gunners captured a record-extending 14th FA Cup trophy in 2020, to assert themselves as the masters of this title.
Although many of their title victories were achieved in the Highbury era, there've also been a fair few FA Cup successes since Arsenal moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2006. This ground can accommodate more than 60,000 people, making it one of the largest stadiums n the UK and also one of the liveliest on a matchday in the FA Cup.
The likes of Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, and Patrick Vieira were all instrumental under manager Arsène Wenger in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In more recent times, talents such as Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez have contributed to Arsenal's success in this tournament.
Arsenal's Top Achievements In the FA Cup
As mentioned, Arsenal have won more FA Cup titles than any other team in the history of this competition. The club's achieved its first success in 1930 and clinched another before WWII. The Gunners were again victorious in the 1949/50, 1970/71 and 1978/79 seasons, beating Liverpool (twice) and Manchester United in the respective finals.
By the time Arsène Wenger had been appointed Arsenal manager in 1996, the club had picked up only one more FA Cup title. The Frenchman went on to become the most successful coach in FA Cup history, lifting the trophy on seven occasions during his 22-year tenure in charge of the Gunners.
Arsenal were FA Cup winners in 1998 and then reclaimed the title three times in the space of four seasons from 2001/02 to 2004/05. They repeated this feat between 2013 and 2017, as Wenger surpassed the tally of former Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson (5). In the post-Wenger era Arsenal were crowned FA Cup champions for a record 14th time in 2020, when Mikel Arteta's side overcame Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.
