AFC Bournemouth have not been able to recall any tangible success within the FA Cup as of late, however the Cherries are certainly a side that are more than up for the occasion when the oldest club knockout competition in the world arrives on the schedule each season. With the possibility of matches being played at the Vitality Stadium, the 11,364 capacity venue becomes extremely full of passionate fans full of hope that their team will be able to progress as far as possible in the tournament.

Bournemouth are not a side that have a huge history in terms of being successful, therefore it is perhaps a little more understandable that they have not had some of the biggest names to have ever graced the pitch for them in their colours. Nevertheless, men such as Nathan Ake, Josh King and Callum Wilson have all featured, with each individual having represented their countries at the top level.

As mentioned, the Cherries are not a football club that are in a position to recall any tangible success when it comes down to the FA Cup. However, the club did make it to the sixth round of the tournament in the 1956/57 edition; their best run to date.

That campaign was perhaps one of the most memorable achievements for the football club in terms of the competition, as well. Bournemouth managed to go on a run of fixtures whereby they would beat Accrington Stanley, Swindon Town and Burton Albion in the earlier rounds before facing Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves, who were a First Division side at the time, were beaten 1-0 which saw the Cherries face an impossible task against Tottenham Hotspur, however a 3-1 win meant a sixth-round tie would be set up against Manchester United.

The Red Devils, though, proved to be too much for Bournemouth as they were beaten 3-1 at Dean Court.

The Cherries will be desperate to improve on their showings in the FA Cup and might need to take inspiration from the 1956/57 edition in future tournaments if they are ever to progress and rewrite their own history books a little more.
