Aston Villa History in the FA Cup
AVFC first took part in the FA Cup during the 1879/80 season and lifted the trophy for the first time seven years later. The Villans added a further four titles to their collection before the start of WWI.
Aston Villa went more than three decades without reclaiming FA Cup honours, eventually doing so in 1957. The Midlands outfit defeated Manchester United in the final, 2-1, as Peter McParland scored twice at Wembley Stadium.
Villa Park can hold a capacity of 42,000 and it's one of the most thrilling venues to observe a Cup match. Ashley Young, Fabian Delph and Jack Grealish have all previously represented the Villans in this competition.
Aston Villa's Top Achievements In the FA Cup
Villa have been crowned winners of the FA Cup on seven occasions throughout its history, having first lifted the trophy back in 1886/87. AVFC won it again in 1894/85, 1896/97, 1904/05, 1912/13, and in 1919/20 to take the club's tally to six FA Cup titles.
The Villans' most recent success in this competition came in 1956/57; victory over Matt Busby's dominant Man United side was a massive triumph for Villa at the time. AVFC have featured in no fewer than 11 FA Cup finals, making them one of the most successful sides in the history of the tournament.
