About Bolivia Tickets 2023/24

Football (soccer) is by far the most followed sport in Bolivia, home to almost 12 million citizens.

SeatPick will help you find the best tickets to see the Bolivia national soccer team live in action.

History of the Bolivia National Football Team

The Bolivian Football Federation was established in 1925, before gaining affiliation with both FIFA and CONMEBOL the following year.

The first official fixture featuring the Bolivia national soccer team was the first match at the 1926 South American Championship, against hosts Chile. The home side claimed a resounding victory by seven goals to one.

Bolivia has five neighbouring countries, among them Argentina and Brazil, though La Verde haven't been nearly as blessed as these nations, both in terms of silverware and the calibre of talent on show.

For much of the last 20 years Bolivia has been the lowest-ranked South American nation, as per the FIFA world rankings. La Verde achieved their highest placement of 18th in July 1997, following an excellent display at the Copa America tournament on home soil.

Bolivia at the World Cup

Bolivia was one of 13 participants at the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, with more than half of the competitors based in South America. There wasn't much to write home about, as Bolivia succumbed to a group-stage exit with 4-0 defeats versus Yugoslavia and then Brazil.

In its only game at the 1950 World Cup, the Bolivia national team lost to eventual champions Uruguay.

Bolivia's next appearance at the showpiece event only came in 1994. The South Americans were grouped with South Korea as well as European heavyweights Germany and Spain. La Verde finished bottom of the group, failing to win any of their three games.

Bolivia remains winless in six matches overall at the World Cup but will be determined to play at the tournament again for the first time in more than 30 years.

Bolivia at Copa America

Bolivia first participated in the 1926 edition of this tournament, still known as the South American Championship at the time. The debutants finished last out of five teams, losing all of their four matches.

On the country's 10th appearance at the competition, and its first on home soil, La Verde were crowned champions of South America in 1963. Bolivia went undefeated in six round-robin games, winning five including a now-famous 5-4 triumph over then-World Cup holders Brazil, to pip Paraguay to top spot and win its first major title.

To date, Bolivia awaits a second continental title and its first since the competition rebranded to 'Copa America' in 1975. When Bolivia next hosted the event in 1997, the host nation advanced from its group relatively unscathed, collecting three wins out of three without conceding a goal. La Verde overcame Colombia in the quarter-finals and then Mexico in the semis before losing out to neighbours Brazil, once again reigning world champions at the time.

Bolivia then failed to progress from the group stage at the following five editions of Copa America, going winless in 15 matches. In 2015, Bolivia scraped through the group stage, despite a 5-0 thumping by eventual winners Chile, but crashed out to Peru in the first knockout round.

Best Bolivia Football Players

Máximo Alcócer scored five goals at the 1963 South American Championship as Bolivia won a maiden title at the tournament.

To date, Ronald Raldes and Marcelo Moreno are the only two players who have amassed more than 100 caps for the Bolivia national soccer team. The latter is also the highest-scoring individual in the history of Bolivian soccer, with no fewer than 31 goals for the national team.

Bolivia National Team Stadium

The Bolivia national team plays its home matches at Estadio Hernando Siles, situated in the city of La Paz. This venue has a capacity close to 40,000, and an altitude of almost 12,000 ft – making it one of the highest professional stadiums in the world.
