Creed History

Creed was formed in 1994 in Tallahassee, Florida, by singer Scott Stapp and guitarist Mark Tremonti, who had been friends since childhood.

They were soon joined by bassist Brian Marshall, drummer Scott Phillips, and Brian Brasher (whose involvement in the band was admittedly brief).

Def Leppard, U2, The Door, and Led Zeppelin are among the band's many cited influences, and their Christian religious beliefs are often apparent in their lyrics.

My Own Prison

The band released their debut album, My Own Prison, in 1997, and it was a relative success, albeit nothing compared to the heights they would soon hit. The album spawned a number of successful singles, including the title track, Torn, What's This Life For and One.

With Arms Wide Open

1999 saw Creed release their second studio album, with Human Clay flying to the top of the US Billboard Albums chart and selling over 11 million copies in the United States alone.

Singles Higher and and What If did well before With Arms Wide Open proved an astonishing hit, going to number one in the US and charting well across Europe and also doing well in the UK.

The record put Creed well and truly on the mainstream map.

It remains the most successful of all Creed studio albums. In 2001 the band released Weathered, another chart-topping album, which showed the band's ability to continue to remain at the very top of their game.

My Sacrifice and One Last Breath both reached the top ten in the US and by this point Creed live were one of the biggest touring bands on the planet, playing to massive crowds around the world.

Break Up and Reunion

In 2004, Creed split up, but they ultimately reformed in 2009 and released their fourth studio album, Full Circle. This album secured good commercial and critical success, and the singles Overcome and Rain both charted in the United States and elsewhere.

They split up once again in 2012 before getting back together a decade later.

Grammy Award Winners

Creed have sold over 50 million records worldwide and earned a range of accolades over the years; these include a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song for With Arms Wide Open in 2001 and after more than ten years apart, they came back to tour again in 2024 to much interest from their large and loyal fanbase.
