France vs Spain at the World Cup

These two nations have celebrated FIFA World Cup success at least once apiece, though prior to 1998 neither of them had done so.

France were the first of them to be crowned champions of the world, with victory at the tournament held on home soil in 1998. Les Bleus overcame Italy & Croatia before defeating Brazil 3-0 in the World Cup Final, with an estimated 75,000 spectators packed inside the Stade de France.

Spain joined the elite club of World Cup winners in 2010, thanks to a nail-biting victory over the Netherlands. Only in 2006 did these two teams share a pitch at the FIFA World Cup finals. The pair clashed in the Round of 16 as France came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory.

Spain striker David Villa broke the deadlock though Franck Ribery equalised shortly before half-time. The match almost required an additional 30 minutes of extra time however Patrick Vieira & Zinedine Zidane both found the net late on, as Les Bleus ultimately marched on to the World Cup Final.
