Kesha Biography

Kesha Rose Sebert was born in March 1987 in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Rosemary Sebert, was a successful singer-songwriter who raised her family alone. They moved to Nashville when Kesha was a child, and as a youngster, she learned the trumpet and saxophone before dropping out of school at the age of 17.

She was already displaying an incredible talent to write songs and perform to a high standard, and at the age of 18, she was signed by Kemosabe Records and in 2009, her debut single, Tik Tok, made her an instant hit. The track went to number one on the US Billboard singles chart and was a worldwide smash, selling millions of copies.

In 2010, she booked the slot as the opening act for Rihanna on her hugely successful Last Girl on Earth tour.

That was followed by hits like Blah Blah Blah, Your Love Is My Drug, and Take It Off, all of which featured on her debut album, Animal.

The Animal went to number one on the US Billboard Albums chart and sold over a million copies in the United States alone. Two years later, Kesha released her second album, Warrior, another commercial success. The singles Die Young, C'Mon, and Crazy Kids (featuring Will.i.am and Juicy J ) all performed well.

In 2010, she also released an EP, Cannibal, with the track Blow breaking into the top ten in the US and a number of other territories.

In 2013, she worked with Pitbull on the number-one track, Timber and in 2017, her third album, Rainbow, was released. That secured her the second number-one US Billboard Album success, with tracks like Praying and Woman being particularly successful.

2020 saw Kesha release her fourth studio album, High Road being well received by audiences and in 2023, Gag Order came out and included singles Fine Line, Eat the Acid and Only Love Can Save Us Now.

Kesha has sold millions of records over the past decade-plus and has become a consistent force on the dance-pop scene. She has also picked up a number of accolades along the way, including two Grammy nominations earned in 2018 for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
