OMD History

OMD, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, were formed in the late 1970s and released their self-titled debut album in 1980 and instantly garnered a wide fanbase who picked up on their unique style. The band's second album, Organization, charted well and included the band's most well-known single, with Enola Gay reaching the top ten on the UK singles chart.

Their third album is cited as the band's magnum opus, and Architecture & Morality is regularly rated as one of the best albums released in the 1980s. It spawned three top-ten singles, with Souvenir, Joan of Arc and Maid of Orleans becoming classics of the genre.

The band proved very prolific in the 1980s with subsequent albums, Dazzle Ships (1983), Junk Culture (1984), Crush (1985), and The Pacific Age (1986), all performing well from a commercial perspective.

Andy McCluskey chose to disband OMD in 1996 to concentrate on other ventures, but they reformed in 2010 with the release of History of Modern and have been producing output ever since.

In 2023, OMD released their first studio album in six years, with Bauhaus Staircase proving a big success, charting at number two on the UK Album charts, the highest position the band has ever achieved.

They are supporting that release with the epic Bauhaus Staircase tour, as outlined earlier. The new album was well received by critics and fans alike and proved that the band still has a great deal to offer, not just in terms of their studio output but also in relation to their live shows.
