Ringo Starr Biography

Richard Starkey was born in Liverpool in July 1940 and he joined The Beatles in 1962, replacing Pete Best as the band's drummer, and the rest, as they say, is history.

As a member of the biggest rock and roll band of all time, Ringo Starr was, and perhaps remains, one of the most famous people on the planet; such was the fame of the band at the height of their powers.

The Beatles broke up in 1970, and Ringo Starr released his first solo album the same year. His 1973 release, Ringo, proved to be the most successful of his career, selling over a million copies in the United States alone.

Clearly, he was always going to struggle to replicate the success of The Beatles and, indeed, the other members of the band who forged incredibly successful solo careers, but seemingly, that has not mattered much to Ringo Starr, and as such, he has retained a love for producing music and playing live.

In 1989, Ringo Starr founded his new project, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and it has proven a successful venture to this day. The latest lineup includes Ringo Starr, obviously, Colin Hay on guitar, Hamish Stuart on bass, Edgar Winter on keyboards, Gregg Bissonette on drums, Steve Lukather on guitar and Warren Ham on saxophone.

Ringo Starr is the main vocalist for the band, and it is worth remembering that he did provide the vocals for many of The Beatles best-known songs, including With a Little Help from My Friends, Yellow Submarine, I Wanna Be Your Man and Act Naturally.

Previous members have included the wonderful Billy Preston, known as the fifth Beatle, Nils Lofgren and Joe Walsh. The band has released a number of live albums and have enjoyed hugely successful tours across the world.
