Rise Against History

Rise Against were formed in 1999 by bass player Joe Principe and guitar god Dan Wleklinkski, with the two having previously played in punk rock band 88 Fingers Louie, before they disbanded.

They started a new venture named Transistor Revolt with drummer Tony Tintari, guitarist Kevin White and Tim McIlrath doing the singing. Further band changes occurred by the time Rise Against released their debut album, The Unraveling, in 2001.

By that time, the group was made up of Tim McIlrath, Dan Wleklinski, Joe Principe and Brandon Barnes as drummer. Their second album, Revolutions Per Minute, was another which failed to garner significant impact.

However, their third album, Siren Song of the Counter Culture, did finally get the band on the US Billboard Album chart. Their next album, 2006's The Sufferer & the Witness, saw the group make a big leap into the mainstream.

Appeal To Reason

It broke into the US Billboard Album top ten and sold over a million copies in the country. They became one of the biggest bands of their genre with their following album, Appeal to Reason, which was a major hit worldwide.

Appeal to Reason included a number of strong singles, with Re-Education (Through Labor), Audience of One and Savior all doing well. 2011's Endgame picked up where Appeal to Reason left off and was their highest charting album to date.

Longevity

The Black Market (2014), Wolves (2017) and the group's ninth studio album, Nowhere Generation (2021), all performed well from both a commercial and critical perspective, and their longevity in the genre is to be applauded. Not least because the punk rock field is not known for acts that traverse the decades.
