Capital Summertime Ball History

Capital's Summertime Ball is hosted by the radio station Capital London and has gone from strength to strength since its first event back in 2009. Tens of thousands attended that first year, and in 2010, the decision was taken to move to the larger Wembley Stadium venue.

That first event at Wembley saw Rihanna, Usher, and Justin Bieber take to the stage, and arguably, that is one of the biggest lineups imaginable.

In 2012, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay joined the fun, and in 2013, the event sold out in just two hours, thanks chiefly to Justin Timberlake's involvement. 2018 saw Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello headlining the event, and 2019 saw Busted appear as special guests.

Both 2020 and 2021 saw the event cancelled before 2022's triumphant return was headlined by Ed Sheeran. In 2023, the headliners included Kylie Minogue and Niall Horan, with Lewis Capaldi pulling out late on.
