Czech Republic World Cup History

The Czechoslovakia national team played a significant part in the early editions of the FIFA World Cup, ending runners-up to Italy in 1934 before reaching the quarter-finals four years later.

Czechoslovakia once again advanced to the World Cup Final in 1962 and led the match thanks to Josef Masopust, however Brazil ran out 3-1 winners to retain the world title.

The 1990 World Cup tournament saw Czechoslovakia progress to the knockout phase, finishing 2nd in their group behind hosts Italy before claiming a 4-1 victory over Costa Rica in the last-16. Ultimately this was as far as they made it, as eventual champions West Germany knocked out Czechoslovakia in the quarter-finals.

Only in 2006 did the Czech national team feature at the World Cup finals, some 13 years after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The Czechs comfortably won their opening group game, 3-0 against the United States, however back-to-back defeats to Ghana & Italy meant the end of the road for the Central European country.

Czech Republic land in Group A alongside co-hosts Mexico, South Africa and South Korea, with their final group game at the Estadio Azteca — the most iconic stadium in World Cup history, and the same venue where Czechoslovakia scored after just 15 seconds against Mexico in 1962, the second fastest goal in tournament history.

Official tickets are distributed through the Czech Football Association (FAČR) for eligible supporters. As with every nation, the federation receives an 8% share of each stadium's saleable capacity per match, divided across four tiers: Supporter Premier (Cat 1), Supporter Standard (Cat 2), Supporter Value (Cat 3), and the limited Supporter Entry Tier.

Two of Czech Republic's three group games take place at standard non-host venues, Estadio Akron in Guadalajara and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where face-value pricing is among the more accessible in the tournament. The final group game at the Azteca against Mexico is a different proposition entirely, with host-nation pricing applying and demand expected to be enormous.
