Sweden World Cup History

The Swedes were major contenders in the early years of the FIFA World Cup, claiming fourth place at the 1938 World Cup before ending third at the following edition in 1950.

Sweden hosted the 1958 showpiece event and endured a run to the World Cup Final, where the home side would ultimately finish as runners-up to an inspired Brazil team.

Goalkeeping great Thomas Ravelli represented Sweden at the 1990 & 1994 editions of the World Cup. The latter saw Ravelli play in all seven games for his country, contributing towards the Blågult reaching the semi-finals and ultimately claiming third place at the showpiece.

Henrik Larsson scored five goals in 13 matches across three World Cup tournaments (1994, 2002 & 2006). The forward famously netted a late equaliser to rescue a 2-2 draw against England at the 2006 event held in Germany.
