Inter have been crowned European champions no fewer than three times, with two of those coming in the 1960s. Star striker Sandro Mazzola steered the Nerazzurri to a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the 1964 European Cup final, and the following year they edged Benfica to retain UEFA's most prestigious club prize.

In the modern Champions League era Inter Milan made history in the 2009/10 season, becoming the first Italian side to complete the treble by winning the Serie A, Champions League and Coppa Italia titles.
