Nelly Biography

Cornell Iral Haynes Jr, aka Nelly, was born in November 1974 in Austin, Texas, and as a teenager, he moved with his family to St. Louis, Missouri.

Nelly formed the St Lunatics, a hip-hop group, in 1993, but despite rave reviews, they struggled to get noticed outside St. Louis. Nelly left to go solo and was signed by Universal Music Group in 1999.

In 2000, Nelly released his debut solo album, Country Grammar, which proved an incredible success, selling over ten million copies in the United States alone. The record spawned a series of hit singles, including E.I., Ride Wit Me (with City Spud) and Batter Up.

To cement his position as one of the biggest hip-hop artists in the world, Nelly released his second album in 2002, and Nellyville went on to become another huge success, selling seven million copies in the US.

That album featured the number-one singles Hot in Herre and Dilemma, featuring Kelly Rowland. Other tracks of note were Air Force Ones, Pimp Juice and Work It (with Justin Timberlake).

Sweat (2004), Suit (2004), Brass Knuckles (2008) and 5.0 (2010) were all massively successful studio albums and proved that even in a field as fickle as hip-hop, Nelly had real longevity. Among his biggest releases over this period were My Place, Over and Over (with Tim McGraw), Tilt Ya Head Back (Christina Aguilera), Grillz, Party People (with Fergie), Body On Me (with Akon and Ashanti), Move That Body (with T-Pain) and Just a Dream.

In 2013 Nelly released his seventh studio album, M.O. and that to proved a success, particularly among critics who gave the record glowing reviews and considered it one of the best Nelly releases to date. Hits from that record included Hey Porsche and Get Like Me (with Nicki Minaj).

2021 saw Nelly release his eighth solo album, Heartland, which included strong commercial singles in the form of Lil Bit and High Horse.

His shows are a celebration of what Nelly has achieved over the course of his solo career, where fans will get to hear all those hits that their local DJ play, but live and in person, making the occasion all the more memorable and something of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Over the course of his epic music career, Nelly has sold tens of millions of records and won a number of accolades.
