Christina Maria Aguilera was born in December 1980 in New York City, and in 1990, she appeared on the talent show Star Search. In 1991, she auditioned for The All-New Mickey Mouse Club and joined a cast that included Ryan Gosling, Britney Spears, Keri Russell and Justin Timberlake.

In May 1999 Christina Aguilera burst onto the scene when her debut single with a major label went to number one around the world, including in the US Billboard charts. Genie in a Bottle went on to sell two million copies in the United States alone. That led to the first of many Grammy Awards, picking up Best New Artist in 2000.

Her self-titled debut album was released in August 1999 and proved an astonishing success, selling over nine million copies in the United States and over 14 million records worldwide. The album also included further US number-one singles What a Girl Wants and Come On Baby (All I Want is You).

In 2002 Christina Aguilera released Stripped and secured another massive success, with the album selling over four million copies in the United States.

That came after she teamed up with Lil' Kim, Rya and Pink on the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack with their number one success Lady Marmalade.

Beautiful proved another massive hit single for Christina Aguilera and in 2006 Back to Basics took Aguilera back to the top of the US Billboard Album charts. That album spawned hit singles Ain't No Other Man, Hurt and Candyman.
