Yet, AC Milan have not won the tournament since beating Liverpool in the 2006/07 final. The Rossoneri suffered a fall from grace in the years that followed, winning just one Scudetto in a 17-year period.

They did win the Serie A title in 2021/22 and reached the Champions League semi-finals in the following season.

Sandro Tonali is the obvious connection between these two clubs. The young central midfielder was on his way to becoming a club legend at AC Milan before signing for Newcastle United in July 2023.

Tonali joined the Magpies in a €70m deal, making him the most expensive Italian player of all-time. Newcastle were drawn with AC Milan in Group F of the 2023/24 Champions League, setting Tonali up with a speedy return to the San Siro.

Patrick Kluivert, Fabriccio Coloccini, and Andreas Andersson are three more players to have played for both Newcastle and AC Milan, although none of them moved directly from one club to the other.
