There's a strange tension at the center of a Rawayana show: a band that just won a Grammy and can sell out arenas across three continents, whose members have also had to argue their way through immigration lines to enter countries where they're the headline act.
That tension is largely the point. Rawayana named itself after the Ramayana, an ancient Hindu epic, and spent years building a fictional world around it, the Island of Rawayana, as a kind of creative escape hatch from a country that's been in political and economic crisis for most of the band's existence.
The music that came out of that is reggae, funk, ska, and psychedelic pop stitched together loosely enough that no single genre label quite fits, and it's turned the band into something close to a soundtrack for Venezuelans who no longer live in Venezuela.
Every listing here comes from a trusted marketplace and gets verified before it reaches you, so there's no guessing whether a ticket is real or where you'll actually be sitting.
Frontman Beto Montenegro has said in interviews that the band's current era is deliberately about presence over nostalgia — not looking back, just being fully in whatever room they're in that night.
On stage, that translates into a set that refuses to sit still: a reggae groove slides into a funk breakdown, which slides into something closer to a ballad, sometimes within a single song rather than between them.
"Tonada por Ella," a stripped-back, almost fragile track about their home country, tends to land very differently than the rest of the set, with the room going quiet in a way it doesn't for the funkier material.
For a lot of the audience, particularly Venezuelans who've left the country, that shift between celebration and something more aching isn't incidental — it's arguably the whole show.
The band started in Caracas in 2007, formed by vocalist and guitarist Alberto "Beto" Montenegro and bassist Antonio "Tony" Casas, later joined by drummer Andrés Story and guitarist Alejandro Abeijón.
A win at Venezuela's New Bands Festival in 2010 gave them their first real audience at home, but it was 2016's Trippy Caribbean that carried them past Venezuela's borders and into wider Latin American recognition.
The years since haven't been simple: Venezuela's prolonged political and economic instability has scattered much of their original fanbase abroad, a reality the band has addressed directly in their music, most pointedly on 2021's Cuando los Acéfalos Predominan.
In 2024, their song "Veneka" drew public criticism from Venezuelan government officials, and the band responded by canceling a planned tour of the country entirely, a decision that made headlines well beyond the usual music press.
None of that friction slowed their momentum commercially. Their 2024 album, ¿Quién Trae las Cornetas?, won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album in early 2025, the band's first Grammy and a genuine milestone for Venezuelan music internationally.
Licencia Para Ser Libre, their 2011 debut, introduced the reggae-and-funk-laced "island" concept that would define their catalogue going forward, followed by the more psychedelic Rawayanaland in 2013.
2025 brought an unplanned detour: a collaboration with Colombian band Bomba Estéreo that started as a single song and grew into a full joint album, Astropical, blending both groups' tropical instincts into one record.
Their newest full-length, ¿Dónde Es El After?, dropped on New Year's Day 2026, 23 tracks deep, with guest spots from Manuel Turizo, Carín León, and Grupo Frontera among a long list of collaborators.
"High," their collaboration with rapper Apache, is still the song most likely to get an entire room singing in unison, sitting past 110 million YouTube views at this point with no sign of aging out of the setlist.
"Feriado" and "Sin Ti" remain durable favorites from earlier in their catalogue, while "Veneka," the song that caused all the political noise back home, tends to get one of the loudest receptions of the night, for reasons that go well beyond the melody.
The band played Coachella in 2025, a booking that Venezuelan media covered less as a career milestone and more as a point of national pride for a diaspora that rarely sees itself represented on a stage that size.
They've also toured alongside their Astropical collaborators, Bomba Estéreo, including a shared bill at the Hollywood Bowl that leaned into both bands' overlapping tropical, genre-blurring instincts.
Their current run, the ¿Dónde Es El After? World Tour, launched in Bogotá and stretches across Latin America, Europe, the Caribbean, the US, and Canada through the rest of the year.
