Sean Paul Biography

Sean Paul was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and gave up a potentially successful career in sports to concentrate on a burgeoning musical career. At an open mic event, he attracted the attention of Zachary Harding, who became his first manager and invited him to his studio, where he performed a new song, Baby Girl, and things progressed rapidly from there on in.

His debut album, Stage One, helped to secure a major record label deal with Atlantic, and his first album with them was Dutty Rock, which was a massive worldwide success.

Dutty Rock proved a critical success, with Sean Paul winning the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album and also saw him nominated for an American Music Award. Bossman with Beenie Man further propelled him into the mainstream.

Sean Paul was a much sought-after performer who teamed up with a wealth of stars early in his musical career. He worked with Beyonce on Baby Boy, Make It Clap with Busta Rhymes, and Breathe with Blu Cantrell, all proving smash hits in 2003.

The record included hit singles Gimme the Light, Get Busy, Like Glue, and I'm Still In Love With You, featuring Sasha. In 2005, Sean Paul released his third studio album with The Trinity, scoring him a top-five hit on the US Billboard charts and selling over a million copies in the United States alone.

The album spawned successful singles like We Be Burnin, Temperature and Ever Blazin. Imperial Blaze (2009), Tomahawk Technique (2012), and Full Frequency (2014) all performed well and earned Sean Paul a reputation as a prolific hitmaker.

In 2012, Sean Paul worked with Kelly Rowland on How Deep Is Your Live. 2013 saw the Jamaican star team up with Nicki Minaj on Entertainment 2.0, and 2016 saw a partnership with Dua Lipa on No Lie. 2017 saw Sean Paul work with David Guetta on Mad Love, and in 2018, he worked with Major Lazer on Tip Pon It.
