Sia Biography

Sia Kate Isobelle Furler was born in December 1975 in Adelaide, Australia. She cites stars including Sting, Stevie Wonder, and Aretha Franklin among her early influences. After the band she was in, Crisp disbanded, and she worked as a backing vocalist for Jamiroquai.

She also worked with Zero 7 on three of the English band's studio albums and subsequently signed a contract with Sony Music.

In 1997, Sia released her debut studio album, OnlySee, which was a moderate success. Her follow-up, Healing is Difficult, charted in Australia when released by Columbia Records. In 2000, her first single, Taken for Granted, went to number ten on the UK Singles charts, but consistent success was still some way into the future.

Her fifth studio album, We Are Born, finally broke the UK and US market in 2010 and put Sia firmly on the map with her amazing voice winning over a wide fanbase. In 2011, she worked with a slew of major artists that helped to garner her much-needed exposure.

She appeared on Titanium by David Guetta and Wilde Ones with Flo Rida, both of which were top ten hits in the United States. After five studio albums, Sia truly burst onto the scene with her sixth, 1000 Forms of Fear, going to number one in the US and into the top five in the UK.

Much of this success was down to her megahit Chandelier, which went nine times Platinum in the US and was followed up by another successful single, Elastic Heart. The music video for Chandelier then received the homage treatment by Kristen Wiig at the 2015 Grammy Awards ceremony.

2013 saw Sia work with a number of artists as a co-writer and backing vocalist, including Eminem, Britney Spears, Rihanna and Beyonce.

2016 saw Sia's release This is Acting, another critical and commercial success, with the album earning Sia her first US Billboard number one single, Cheap Thrills, featuring Sean Paul, which was followed up by The Greatest featuring Kendrick Lamar.

In 2017, Sia released Everyday is Christmas, her eighth studio album and in 2012, she put out a soundtrack album to support Music, which she directed and co-wrote.

2019 saw Sia team up with rapper Labrinth and music producer Diplo to form LSD. Their debut studio album drew positive reviews, and the album has accrued over a billion streams on Spotify.

Her latest release, Reasonable Woman, features Sia's latest hit single, Gimme Love. and 2024 looks like it will be another successful year for the Aussie.

Sia has secured a host of awards and accolades over the years. Among those are ten ARIA Music Awards and an MTV Video Music Award for Chandelier. She has also been nominated for three Golden Globes and nine Grammy Awards.
