Busta Rhymes Biography

Trevor George Smith, aka Busta Rhymes, of Jamaican heritage, was born in May 1972 in New York City. In 1986, he teamed up with Charlie Brown, Cut Monitor Milo, and Dinco D to form the Leaders of the New School, an East Coast hip-hop group out of Long Island.

The group released two albums, A Future Without a Past in 1991 and T.I.M.E in 1993, before Busta Rhymes opted to go solo.

In 1996, he signed to Elektra Records, and his debut solo album, The Coming, was released. It proved a big success, selling over a million copies in the United States alone. The album included the singles Woo-Hah!! Got Your All in Check, and It's a Party.

When Disaster Strikes followed in 1997, earning Busta Rhymes another million-selling US album; singles from the album included the successful tracks Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See and Dangerous.

He also released Turn It Up, which earned him another top-ten singles hit. 1998 saw the release of Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front, another huge commercial success for the talented performer.

That album included the single What's It Gonna Be, which saw Busta Rhymes teaming up with Janet Jackson on a hugely successful single.

Anarchy (2000), Genesis (2001), and It Ain't Safe No More (2002) further cemented his standing on the rap scene before his 2006 album, The Big Bang, earned him his first ever Us Billboard number-one album.
