Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr was born in October 1971 in Long Beach, California. His father was a Vietnam war veteran and left the family when Snoop Dogg was a young child. At a young age, he began singing and playing the piano and started to rap while at school.

The Chronic

1992 saw him team up with Dr. Dre on The Chronic, one of the most important releases in rap history and one that introduced Snoop Dogg to a wider audience. Among the classic tracks on that album was Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang.

In 1993 he released his debut album on Death Row Records, with Doggystyle becoming an iconic record which sold almost seven million copies in the United States alone. Produced by Dr. Dre, the record put Snoop Dogg well and truly on the hip-hop and gangsta rap scene.

1996 saw the release of The Doggfather, another miraculous success around the world.
