Slovakia vs Scotland History

Despite being one of the oldest national teams in the world, the Scottish only featured at the UEFA European Championship for the first time in 1992. They were eliminated at the group stage and suffered a similar fate four years later in England. More recently, at Euro 2020, Scotland ended bottom of their group having failed to win any of their three games versus England, Croatia and the Czech Republic.

Slovakia, meanwhile, competed under Czechoslovakia and participated in the inaugural edition of the European Championship in 1960. Czechoslovakia emerged victorious at Euro 1976, defeating West Germany (on penalties) in the final. After ending 3rd at the following tournament in 1980, Czechoslovakia wouldn't take part in another Euro finals event.

As its own entity, Slovakia failed to qualify for this competition for several years before finally sealing qualification for Euro 2016. The Sokoli avoided defeat to England and subsequently advanced to the knockouts as one of the best third-placed teams, but ultimately crashed out to Germany in the last-16. At Euro 2020, Slovakia exited the tournament at the group stage.

Slovakia vs Scotland Head-to-Head

These national teams only shared a pitch for the first time in 2016 as they faced one another in qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup. Scotland claimed a narrow 1-0 win at Hampden Park after Slovakia had earlier cruised to a 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture.

The sides would also meet in the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League, with either of them winning 1-0 in their home tie. Prior to Euro 2024, Slovakia and Scotland had never clashed at a major tournament.
