Lazio, who share their Stadio Olimpico home with AS Roma, have been something of a disappointment when they have managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The one time they qualified for the tournament prior to the rebranding and format change, they were actually banned from competing.

Lazio won the Serie A title in 1973/74 but were barred from the European Cup the following year.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side went on to reach three finals between 2008 and 2011. In the first, they faced Chelsea and won on penalties after John Terry famously skied his effort. In both 2009 and 2011, Manchester United took on Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola’s polished side twice dealt a blow to the Premier League side, with FC Barcelona winning in both Rome and London.

Manchester United have not come close to reaching those heights since the Scottish boss retired from his position, and they will be looking to once again make an impact in the UEFA Champions League this season.
