Uncle Kracker Biography

Born Matthew Shafer, aka Uncle Kracker, in June 1974 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, Kracker has been friends with legend Kid Rock since he was a teenager. He worked extensively with Kid Rock and provided vocals on a number of tracks on his Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp release.

After playing on Kid Rock's compilation release, The History of Rock, in 2000, he opted to pursue a solo career, and his pursuit of a successful solo career was soon realized.

In 2000, he released his debut album, Double Wide, which raced into the top ten on the US Billboard charts and was also a success across Europe. It sold over two million copies in the United States alone and helped to launch his career in earnest.

The debut single from the album Follow Me proved a global hit, and in 2002, he released his second studio album, No Stranger to Shame, which received positive reviews but was not as successful as his opening album. The record did include two successful singles, In a Little While and Drift Away (featuring Dobie Gray), which performed well as well as fan favourites like Memphis Soul Song.

In 2004, he worked with Kenny Chesney on their duet When The Sun Goes Down. The single went to the top of the US Country Music charts and sold over two million copies.

In 2009, Uncle Kracker released his fourth studio album, Happy Hour, which was something of a return to form and included the big hit single Smile as well as Good to Be Me (which featured Kid Rock). Three years later, Midnight Special was released. It was his first full-length country music album, and it did not feature Kid Rock, the first of his albums to not do so. The album includes some of his best work with Nobody's Sad on a Saturday Night and Blue Skies now being staples in his live setlist.

Since 2012, his releases have been sporadic but well-received. He has also spent time touring and honing his craft. 2014 saw the release of the single Endlessly, followed four years later by Floatin and in 2020 by No Time to Be Sober.

In 2023, he toured with legends Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top.
