The Hawthorns has been the home of West Bromwich Albion ever since the stadium first opened its doors in September 1900.

The first time these teams shared a pitch was back in February 1900. Southampton defeated West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup quarter-finals, 2-1, on their way to reaching the final, although that culminated in a losing effort versus Bury.
Eight years later the Baggies and the Saints met again in the FA Cup, this time in the Second Round. Southampton ran out 1-0 winners and went on to reach the semi-finals but ultimately lost out to eventual champions Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Another two decades passed before West Brom and Southampton contested a league fixture for the first time, doing so during the 1927/28 season of the Second Division. Only in 1967 did the two sides clash in the First Division, and this would become a regular fixture for much of the 1970s and 80s.
Southampton defeated West Brom in the 1976 FA Cup, claiming a resounding 4-0 victory on their way to clinching this famous trophy for the first time. The Saints overcame Manchester United, 1-0, the FA Cup final with a crowd in the region of 100,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium.
The First Division was replaced by the Premier League as England's top flight in 1992, though West Brom and Southampton wouldn't clash in the reformatted premier division until the 2002/03 campaign.
