Argentina vs Ecuador Copa America Tournament Record
No South American nation has won the Copa America more often than Argentina, and they opened their account in 1921 and promptly dominated the competition for decades to come.
Between 1923 and 1959 Argentina either won the tournament or finished runners-up in every event they took part in. This run of form came to something of an abrupt end, and there then followed a 32-year title drought.
Talents including Fiorentina goal machine Gabriel Batistuta and wily midfielder Diego Simeone were part of the Argentina side that got the ball rolling on their Copa America title-winning exploits, taking the title in both 1991 and 1993.

At the 2016 event, hosted by the United States as part of the centenary celebration of the tournament, Gustavo Quinteros’s side got all the way to the Quarter-Finals, with the likes of former West Ham forward Enner Valencia and midfielder Jefferson Montero playing a key role.
At the 2021 finals, they once again got to the last eight; this time, their run was brought to an end by Argentina, who won 3-0.
