Blackpink History

The process of forming Blackpink began way back in 2009 when YG Entertainment held auditions for members of a new K-pop girl group they were looking to put together.

Significant delays occurred in the marketing and promotion of the band, and in 2016, the entertainment agency confirmed plans to announce the band members and their first release.

Revealing the Members

The first member of the band to be revealed was Jennie, and she was followed by Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé became the fourth of the South Korean quartet in 2016,. They released their Single Album, Square One, in August of that year.

2016 saw the group play their first concert, and in July 2017, they played a sell-out show in Japan at the famous Budokan venue to 14,000 screaming fans.

Square Up

In 2018 Blackpink released their Square Up EP and which broke into the US Billboard charts and saw the band release the hugely successful single Forever Young, which sold an incredible two and a half million copies in South Korea alone.

In 2018, Blackpink became the first female Korean act to top the Billboard Emerging Artists chart, and the snowball had started to roll.

The Album

In 2020, the group released their first studio album, and their full-length debut, The Album, went on to become something of a phenomenon, topping the charts around the world.

It included hit singles Ice Cream, with Selena Gomez and Lovesick Girls, two big favourites that always appear on the Blackpink setlist.

Sour Candy

2020 also saw the South Korean girl group team up with Lady Gaga for Sour Candy, another worldwide smash.

Born Pink

Born Pink, Blackpink's second studio album, went to number one on both the UK and US charts and spawned a string of hits, including Pink Venom and Shut Down.
