So the 2022/23 season is now done and dusted, and fans of the 20 teams competing in England’s top tier can now take a step back, enjoy the summer and then eagerly contemplate what may occur in 2023/24.
The summer break may seem like a desolate wasteland for supporters, filled with weeks of no meaningful competitive action for supporters, but the good news is that the Premier League fixture list is released in mid-June, and then they can all start to plan out possible trips to see their teams away or plotting massive home clashes.
For those seeking to secure Premier League tickets, there really is only one place to be, and that’s SeatPick, where you can access tickets for every single top flight fixture in 2023/24, all at competitive prices with no hidden fees.
Who’s New
So, who’s coming up from the EFL Championship for the new season? Well, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley romped to the title and will hope to make an impact on their return to the big time.
Sheffield United have also bounced back thanks to the efforts of Paul Heckingbottom, but while these two additions are perhaps not that surprising, the third side to make it out of the dreaded Championship is one that not many will have predicted at the start of the season.
Luton Town will return to the top tier for the first time since 1992, and Rob Edwards knows his team will have a tough time of it in the Premier League.
It’s worth noting for fans looking to see games at Kenilworth Road that tickets will be hard to come by, but Luton Town tickets can be found at SeatPick for every Premier League match in 2023/24.
Who’s Dropped Down to the Championship
Southampton finished the season rock bottom, and the final weekend of the campaign saw Everton battle Leeds United and Leicester City to finish on the right side of the relegation line, and it was the Toffees who won out thanks to their narrow victory over Bournemouth.
Pep Does it Again
Manchester City had to fight hard to win their third successive Premier League title, and their fifth in six seasons, but Pep Guardiola’s side did so in style and could even afford to rest key players in the final weeks as they push for a historic treble.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland proved a key component in their success, with the Norwegian setting all manner of Premier League records with a 50+ goal season across all competitions.
But it was by no means a one-man show. Indeed the likes of John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan, and Nathan Ake put in supreme displays and showed that Guardiola’s squad was more than up for the task.
Europe Is Calling
Arsenal fans will, of course, be upset their Gunners side couldn’t keep up their title push, but in reality, the North London side were not expected to do so, and the fact they finished in second place, just five points off perennial champions Manchester City is still quite an achievement and much for Mikel Arteta to build on.
So they go back into the Champions League after a seven-year absence, and they are joined by Man City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United, with Eddie Howe doing a great job, albeit while very ably backed by new owners with deep pockets.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side won seven and drew two of their final nine games, but it wasn’t enough to get back into the top four, and they’ll have to make do with Europa League action, as will Brighton who were consistent throughout, even after they saw manager Graham Potter leave for Chelsea.
Aston Villa’s qualification for the Europa Conference League was definitely one of the big surprises of the season. Steven Gerrard was sacked in October, and Spaniard Unai Emery was brought in on November 1st when the Midlands side were deep in the bottom half of the table, but the former Arsenal boss fought to get the Villa Park side into a seventh-place finish.
Who Will Challenge for the Title?
Manchester City will, of course, start the season as favourites and will be harder than ever to catch. Arsenal will need to invest to boost their squad but will hope to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
One imagines that Man United will be buoyed by a solid first season for Erik ten Hag, and if they bring in big names that fill problem areas, then they could well continue to progress.
Liverpool and Chelsea will surely revert to type and be forces to be reckoned with. Eddie Howe will have more money to pour into his squad due to Champions League involvement, and Tottenham will hope to put 2022/23 behind them and start afresh, but will that be with or without Harry Kane leading the line?
Who’s Heading for the Drop?
Everyone will say that Luton are a certainty to go down, but they said the same about Nottingham Forest, so who knows? Teams that go up are always the most likely to go down, but a number of teams, such as Everton and West Ham, know they need to be battling at the right end of the table, as is befitting the stature of the respective clubs.
