Brighton History in the League Cup

Brighton & Hove Albion took part in the first edition of the English Football League Cup in the 1960/61 season, bowing out at the third round.

The south-coast club mostly struggled to progress beyond the early stages of the competition, until they reached the quarter-finals in 1978/79. On this occasion Brighton were beaten by eventual champions Nottingham Forest.

The following season Brighton lost out to Arsenal in the Round of 16 and this would be the last time Seagulls featured in the last-16 for more than 30 years. Finally, in 2014/15, the Seagulls advanced to the League Cup Round of 16 and faced Tottenham Hotspur, losing 2-0 at White Hart Lane.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Brighton had never reached the EFL Cup final nor the semi-finals. In that particular campaign, Roberto De Zerbi's side were beaten by Chelsea in the third round.
