Costa Rica – Copa America 2024 Information

Costa Rica qualified for Copa America 2024 by defeating Honduras in the play-offs. Los Ticos were placed into Group D alongside Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay.

Costa Rica National Team at Copa America

Los Ticos made their debut in this competition in 1997, four years after nations outside of South America became eligible to participate at Copa America. Costa Rica exited from the group, failing to beat any of Brazil, Colombia or Mexico.

The Central American country fared better at the 2001 tournament in Colombia. Costa Rica unexpectedly topped its group with two wins out of three, with striker Paulo Wanchope scoring four goals at the group stage. Ultimately though, Costa Rica lost out to Uruguay in the quarter-finals.

At the following edition in 2004, Los Ticos again advanced from the group, this time as one of the best-ranked third-place teams, though they were defeated by Colombia in the last-8.

Costa Rica played at Copa America 2011 and then at the Centenario edition five years later, but succumbed to elimination at the group stage on both occasions.
