After qualifying for Copa America 2024, the USMNT will meet Uruguay, Panama and Bolivia during the group stage.

History: USMNT at Copa America

Despite not being a member of CONMEBOL, the United States men's national team has participated in the Copa America finals several times over the course of the last 30 years.

The USMNT made its Copa America debut in 1993, but they were eliminated from the group stage without picking up a win in three games.

Two years later, USA reached the semi-finals and subsequently claimed fourth-place out of 12 teams. They had beat Argentina to top their group, before eliminating neighbours Mexico (on penalties) in the quarter-finals. USA ultimately lost in the semi-finals to Brazil, who in turn were defeated by Uruguay in the final.

USA didn't feature again at Copa America until 2007, exiting winless after three group matches.

As hosts of Copa America Centenario in 2016, the United States automatically qualified for the tournament marking 100 years of the competition. USMNT took fourth place out of 16 competing national teams, bowing out to Argentina in the semi-finals before a 1-0 loss to Colombia in the third-place match.

The United States was once again chosen to stage the Copa America finals in 2024, though this time the host nation didn't gain automatic qualification for the spectacle. The forthcoming edition will be just the fifth time the USMNT competes at the Copa America finals tournament.
