ITFC took part in what was the inaugural season of the English League Cup in 1960/61, but crashed out to Barnsley in the first round. The Blues made it to the quarter-finals in 1966, and again nine years later, losing to Cardiff City & Norwich City, respectively.

Ipswich Town have participated in the EFL Cup almost every year, yet still await to clinch this title for the first time. The Suffolk-based side has reached the quarter-finals and the semi-finals multiple times, but never the League Cup final.

Results in the 21st century have been rather underwhelming in the perspective of Ipswich supporters, with frequent exits in the early rounds of the tournament.
